“I have sent over 100 résumés or CVs but only one company called me. Or no company called me at all. Why?”
Good question!
Many jobseekers call me and often ask this question.
And I ask them what could be the reason, any guess?
“I think my résumé is the problem. I used online free resume template to save money because I was running short of funds those days.” Many answer.
This is called a Résumé Blitz. Sometimes it works and more often, it does not.
Free résumé templates allow you to just add maximum keywords, scattered all around the résumé. At the end, your résumé gives the impression as if it is built for the robots and by the robot.
Now, the technology of Applicant Tracking System (ATS) has changed. It is built on Contextualization technology instead of Semantic one. Indeed, this is a smart approach and this software assesses an applicant not on the basis of a few specific words – Keywords, but also evaluates the context in which these keywords are used.
Another key to your résumé is to get the attention of hiring manager within time span of 6-9 seconds.
If the content on your résumé is impressive and well-stuffed with a few keywords, chances of calling for an interview are maximum. This résumé will pass updated version of ATS for sure and at the same time, will also convince the recruiter that you are the good match for the current job. Résumé objective achieved!
Also, write a cover letter for you as this is mandatory along with résumé in many companies. Keep in mind that a cover letter should be interactive and complement with the template of résumé.
If you think, your résumé is perfect, cover letter is crunchy, and have job matching rate more than 70%, call to the concerned company if they have not contacted you within a reasonable amount of time.
